Buying a home on the Internet
Keeping up with a new way of doing business
You've found an easy way to look for your new home -- just surf the web! It really is a great way to research home styles, prices, and neighborhoods. The problem is, everything sounds great on the web, and all the pictures are beautiful too - I've never seen an ugly house on a virtual tour! But you know you still need to get out there and cruise the neighborhoods and get inside the houses to see what they are really like. Sunday open houses make that very convenient too. But now you are noticing that the really great homes all sell the first day or so on the market, and you are missing out on them. That's when you need an agent to scout them out for you. And what about the negotiations, building inspections, survey, loan options, occupancy permit, title insurance, and finally getting homeowners insurance -- and getting it all done by closing day? You need someone who will work FULL TIME for YOU!
Technology makes it so much easier to keep in touch throughout the house-hunting and purchase period. I can e-mail you new listings every day, put photos of your new house (an entire album!) on the web the day you purchase it so that all your family and friends can see it that night! All my clients are given my cell phone number and know they can reach me ANY TIME! Yes, I answer calls at 6 AM or 10 PM (thankfully no one calls at 3AM, but the phone is ON!)
An agent working for YOU
In the past few months, I have begun to realize how important the Internet is in real estate and how our traditional good old fashioned service can be enhanced by the new technology. A couple living in Moscow, Russia, and relocating to St.Louis next summer, were able to buy a home here and have entire transaction completed from thousands of miles away. They are the couple who inspired me to put home albums on the web, so that buyers can look at their new home any time, and share the photos with their friends and family far away.
Shortly after the Moscow experience, I helped a St.Louis couple find a new home. She is originally from Turkey, he is from Bangaladesh. They could share the photos of their new home with their families far away via the Internet.
This week I am working with a couple: He is in Iowa, she is in France. Photos flew over the Internet, he drove to St.Louis overnight, a phone call was made to France, and the contract was written and accepted!
